Brother Printer Machine Error 46 Unable to Clean

When a printer performs a head clean the ink is deposited in a waste ink tank.  When the printer estimates that this ink tank is full an error message may occur... Machine Error 46 Unable to Clean.

In many cases this estimate is exaggerated and there is still remaining space for more waste ink in the tank.  The printer can be brought back to life by performing a manual reset.
1. Turn the machine on.
2. Press the Set / OK button,
3.  Press the Menu button.
4.  Press the Mono Start button.
5.  Press the up arrow key four times.
You need to press the above buttons in quick succession.  If you have done this correctly the word ‘maintenance’ should appear on the display.
6. Using the Up/Down arrow keys select the number 8 and then press Set/OK.
7.  Using the Up/Down arrow keys select the number 0 and then press Set/OK.
8.  Either press the Mono Start button repeatedly or use the Up/Down arrow to get into the Purge option.
9.  When PURGE is displayed on the screen, use the up/down arrows and the set/ok key to enter the numbers 2, 7, 8, 3 on the screen.
10.   The number displayed after PURGE should now read 0.  Press the Stop/Exit key to go back to the main maintenance mode menu.
11.  Using the up/down and SET/OK keys enter 9 and then 9 again to exit maintenance mode.

These instructions should work with the following printer models...  Brother DCP-110C, DCP-115C, DCP-117C, DCP-120C, DCP-310CN, DCP-315CN, DCP-340CW, DCP-585CW, DCP-130C, DCP-135C, DCP-145C, DCP-150C, DCP-153C. Canon PIXMA MG2450 Disable Ink Monitor / Reset Levels / Error Codes

Sadly like many other Canon printers you cannot reset the Ink Levels on the PIXMA MG2450.  The ink level data is stored on a copper strip and the printer writes and updates information on it  as it prints or head cleans.  Once the cartridge thinks it is empty it will always show as empty.  Fortunately if your printer is showing that one or more of the cartridges are empty, you can bypass this message by holding the “stop / reset” button on the printer for six seconds. If the printer is showing both cartridges are empty, you will need to repeat the process. The printer should continue printing and use any remaining ink in the cartridges.

There are also a series of error codes / messages indicated by the following...
Two flashes: Machine is out of paper / paper does not feed. Three flashes: Paper jam. Four flashes: The cartridge is not installed properly. Five flashes: The cartridge is not installed properly / appropriate cartridge is not installed. Eight flashes: Ink absorber is almost full. Thirteen flashes: The remaining ink level cannot be detected. Fourteen flashes: The cartridges cannot be recognised. Fifteen flashes: The cartridges cannot be recognised. Sixteen flashes: The ink has run out.

The Canon Pixam MG2450 printer uses the PG-545 Black and CL-546 Colour cartridges.  The Colour cartridges are filled in a similar manner to the older CL-540 cartridges, however the Black PG-545 has a thicker plastic top that can be hard to penetrate.  Fortunately our Eco-Fill Professional Refill Kit has a heavy duty screw tool included that will pierce a refill hole.
